Lauren Torey is a 21-year-old mezzo-soprano from just outside of Toronto, Canada. Based in Manhattan, Torey is continuing her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Studies at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Elizabeth Bishop. Torey has been honing her craft as a vocalist for over 17 years, having performed in solo recitals, concerts, liederabends, masterclasses, and cabaret performances at The Juilliard School; choral performances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra; a solo performance Off-Broadway with The Beginnings Workshop; and winner of Show Choir Canada 2019 with Etobicoke School of the Arts' Splash. Torey is a part of the Shared Voices Cohort with the Denyce Graves Foundation, and is the lead singer for the Canadian band Five of the Tee. She has performed at Don't Tell Mama NYC, Roy Thompson Hall, and Alice Tully Hall.

Select opera credits at The Juilliard School include the role of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Mrs. Gross (cover) in Turn of the Screw, Thelma (cover) in John Musto’s Later the Same Evening, La Maestra (cover) in Suor Angelica, and in the chorus of La clemenza di Tito, Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, and Purcell’s King Arthur. Torey has also been a part of many musical productions in and around the Toronto area, including Fiona in Shrek the Musical (Lower Ossington Theatre [LOT]); Golde in Fiddler on the Roof (Etobicoke School of the Arts); Elle Woods in Legally Blonde (Innovative Arts); The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (PAVAS); Serena Katz in Fame (First Act Youth Company [FAYC]); Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (PAVAS); Cassie in 13: The Musical (FAYC); Mrs. Gloop in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (PAVAS); Ethel in Footloose (Innovative Arts).

Torey has trained as a dancer for the same amount of time that she has been singing; she began dancing when she was three years old, and was on a competitive dance team for seven years. Genres include tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, musical theatre jazz, and Fosse. Torey continues her dance training in NYC at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center.

Along with dancing, Torey has honed her theatrical training at Bongo Productions in Toronto, The Juilliard School, and Etobicoke School of the Arts. She is also training in improvisational comedy at the PIT in NYC.

​

Torey plays several instruments, such as the ukulele, guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and mandolin, all of which are all self-taught. She finds joy in songwriting as well, and has extensive training in music theory, music history, and ear training.

​

Along with all of this, Torey is an avid tennis and volleyball player, as well as a golfer. In her free time, she is a hobbyist painter, embroiderer, knitter, and baker.
